Roam abroad cut to 30 days for new customers; Global Roam closes
RV Mobile Internet reported on July 15, 2026 that Starlink cut Roam's international use for new customers from July 14: Roam Unlimited to 30 days at a time abroad, and none at all for 100GB and 300GB. Global Roam closed to new orders on July 15.

What changed
RV Mobile Internet reported on July 15, 2026 that Starlink had rewritten its international rules for Roam. For new customers signing up on or after July 14, 2026:
- Roam Unlimited: service outside your registered home country or region for up to 30 days at a time. Before, it was up to 60 days.
- Roam 100GB and 300GB: no international use. They work only in your home country or grouped region.
- Travel Registration is back: identity checks before international use, which the report says typically means personal details, a passport or government ID, and a live photo.
The same report says the Global Roam plan was discontinued for new customers on July 15, 2026, and that existing Global Roam service would end on August 17.
Starlink’s own “Traveling with Starlink Roam” page confirms the July 14 date and the rules:
“New customers signing up on or after July 14 are subject to the updated international travel policy.”
For a US account, the grouped region is the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands. The report points out that Mexico is not part of it, which matters to seasonal US travelers who winter south of the border.
Who is affected
- New Roam customers from July 14, right away.
- Existing customers, from August 17, 2026 (we covered that date in its own article).
- Travelers on the cheaper Roam tiers who planned trips to Mexico or overseas.
What it means for you
This was a planning change more than a price change. If you only travel in the US and Canada, you can pick 100GB or 300GB on data needs alone. If any trip crosses into Mexico, you need Roam Unlimited for those days, or a Priority plan for longer stays.
What to do now:
- Match the plan to the trip. You can upgrade to Roam Unlimited before a border crossing and step back down later. Our 100GB vs 300GB guide covers the home tiers; the Roam Unlimited page covers the abroad rules.
- Do Travel Registration early, while you still have a good connection at home.
- Count days. Thirty days at a time, reset by going home. For longer stays, the report notes Local Priority allows up to 60 days abroad in total, and that switching to it “does not reset the 60-day international allowance.”
Our abroad guide has a step-by-step checklist.
What stays the same
- Roam prices did not change with this policy.
- US–Canada travel is still domestic on every Roam plan.
- Global Priority is still the plan for long-term international use, per the report.
Earlier warning sign
In May 2026, Starlink briefly published a chart showing much tighter abroad limits, then pulled it within hours, per RV Mobile Internet. The July policy was milder than that chart but still a clear cut. This is why we date every rule and don’t treat early leaks as final.

What we don’t know yet
- Why Starlink made the change. It did not give a reason on its help pages.
- Whether the earlier 60-day limit was enforced. The press reported it often wasn't, so the real change for some travelers may be bigger than the numbers suggest.
