What you get
- Unlimited data on land in the US, Canada and US territories.
- Use while moving up to 100 mph, and on inland and coastal water up to 12 nautical miles out.
- Travel abroad: 30 days. You need Travel Registration first.
- Pause with Standby Mode between trips.
The catches
- Offshore costs extra. beyond 12 nautical miles you need Ocean Mode, which only Roam Unlimited offers, billed per GB until you turn it off. At 6 usd/GB, a 10 GB day offshore is about $60.
- Coastal limit. without Ocean Mode, Roam use in territorial waters is limited to 5 days in a row and 60 days a year; Ocean Mode lifts it.
- Ocean Mode stays on until you turn it off, and it bills on land too. Set a reminder when you come ashore.
- 30 days abroad, then home. The policy applied to new customers from July 14 and existing customers from Aug 17, 2026.
- No promised priority in busy places like crowded campgrounds.
Unlimited or 300GB?
Unlimited costs $95 a month more than 300GB. It’s worth it when your busiest month tops about 270 GB (full-time work plus streaming), or when you cross into Mexico or go overseas. Otherwise, start on 300GB and upgrade mid-month if you run low. How long each allowance lasts.

Who shouldn’t get Starlink for travel
- Your trips are short and your routes have good cell signal. A cellular hotspot plan is cheaper and simpler. The picker checks this first.
- You camp mostly under heavy trees and won’t carry a pole. Expect drops. Read campgrounds with trees.
- The plan you’d need doesn’t fit your budget. Cancel between trips, pick a smaller allowance, or go cellular only. The cost page shows each pattern.
- You need guaranteed service while driving, for safety or work. Read the in-motion rules first, and never set up or adjust gear while driving.
- You live outside the US. This site covers US accounts and US prices only.
Questions people ask
Is Roam Unlimited really unlimited?
On land, yes: Starlink lists unlimited Roam data. The limits are elsewhere: 30 days at a time outside the US and Canada, and use more than 12 nautical miles offshore (or more than 5 days in a row in coastal waters) needs Ocean Mode, billed per GB.
Does Roam Unlimited get priority over other users?
Starlink doesn’t promise Roam priority. Ocean Mode data, billed per GB, is the one thing Starlink says gets higher network priority than standard Roam data.
Can I switch to Unlimited for just one trip?
Yes. Upgrade any time; you stay on it until you switch back. Downgrade at your billing DATE to keep the full month you paid for.
