Troubleshooting

When travel internet goes wrong

Quick answer

Most travel problems come from five things: the wrong plan for moving, a used-up data allowance, a blocked sky, a home plan used away from home, or rules abroad. Find yours below.

It stops working while you drive

Why: The line is on Residential or paused in Standby, neither of which allows in-motion use; or you’re in a country where in-motion on land is banned.

Fix: Check the plan in the app; resume Roam before driving. Full guide.

It slowed to a crawl mid-month

Why: You used your Roam 100GB or 300GB allowance; service drops to low speed until the billing date.

Fix: Wait, upgrade mid-month (it sticks until you switch back), or move video to campground Wi-Fi. Full guide.

It keeps dropping for a few seconds

Why: Something is in the sky view: trees, a cliff, your own A/C unit or awning.

Fix: Run the obstruction check; move the dish into the clearest spot on its cable or raise it on a pole. Full guide.

Your home dish won’t work at camp

Why: Residential service only works at its registered address.

Fix: Use a Roam plan for travel. Don’t move the home address for a trip: service turns off at the old one. Full guide.

It stopped in Mexico or overseas

Why: Roam 100GB and 300GB only work in the US and Canada; Unlimited is limited to 30 days at a time abroad, after Travel Registration.

Fix: Upgrade to Unlimited before you cross; register first; head home or change plan after 30 days. Full guide.

Starlink’s own alert wording: “MOVING TOO FAST”: Starlink has detected it is moving too fast for your plan; slow below your plan’s limit, or on Residential go back to your service address; “ROAMING PERIOD EXPIRED”: the dish has been outside its registered country too long.
