Taking Starlink Roam to Canada, Mexico or abroad

Quick answer

Canada counts as home for US accounts, so every Roam plan works there. Anywhere else, including Mexico, you need Roam Unlimited ($175/mo), which works abroad up to 30 days at a time, after you register a passport or photo ID. In Mexico, don’t use it while driving.

Mexico: parked only on land

Starlink lists Mexico among the places where in-motion use is prohibited on land and allowed only at sea. On a Baja or mainland trip, set up at camp, not on the road. You can upgrade to Unlimited before you cross and downgrade after you’re back; Roam plans can be changed any time.

Travel Registration

  1. In your Starlink account, go to Settings → Registration Requirements → Add Travel Plans.
  2. Upload a clear photo of your passport or other government photo ID and a live portrait. The name must match your Starlink account.
  3. Do it before you leave, while you still have good signal. Starlink may review it, and some destinations ask for more.

Longer than 30 days

Starlink points longer trips to Priority plans: Local Priority (from $55/mo with 50GB in the US) allows up to 60 days in total abroad, including days already used on Roam Unlimited. Global Priority (from $250/mo with 50GB) has no time limit. Both are business-style plans that charge for data in blocks.

Questions people ask

Does Roam 100GB or 300GB work in Canada?

Yes, for US accounts. Starlink groups the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands as one home region, so travel within it isn’t “international”.

Can I use Starlink in Mexico on an RV trip?

Only on Roam Unlimited (or a Priority plan), for up to 30 days at a time, after Travel Registration. And in Mexico, Starlink says in-motion use on land is prohibited: use it parked only.

What happens after 30 days abroad?

Starlink lists three choices: upgrade to a Priority plan, move your account to the new country if you’ve relocated, or return home, which resets the 30 days.

Do I still pay if my service is cut for missing registration?

Yes. Starlink says billing continues if service is disabled because Travel Registration is incomplete. Cancel from your account to stop billing.
