Roam 50GB becomes Roam 100GB at the same price; $1/GB top-ups end

RV Mobile Internet reported on January 13, 2026 that Starlink's $50 Roam plan went from 50GB to 100GB of high-speed data, existing users were moved over automatically, and the option to buy extra high-speed data at $1 per GB was removed in favor of slow unlimited data after the cap.

Before and after card. Before: Roam 50GB, $50 a month, extra data $1 per GB. After January 13, 2026: Roam 100GB, $50 a month, then unlimited low-speed data under 1 Mbps; no paid top-ups.

What changed

RV Mobile Internet reported on January 13, 2026 that Starlink upgraded its entry Roam plan:

  • Data doubled: the $50-a-month plan went from 50GB to 100GB of high-speed data.
  • Existing users moved automatically, at no extra cost.
  • Top-ups ended: the option to buy more high-speed data at $1 per GB was removed.
  • After the cap: you get “unlimited low-speed (< 1 Mbps) data for the remainder of your billing cycle,” as the report quotes Starlink.

The same report noted that holiday hardware deals had ended, putting the Mini back at $299 and the Standard kit at $349.

Today, Starlink’s Roam plans page lists Roam 100GB for the US and says Roam 50GB remains only in a list of other markets.

Who is affected

  • Light and weekend users who were on Roam 50GB. They got twice the data for the same money.
  • People who used to top up a few GB at the end of a busy month. That button is gone; you slow down or upgrade.

What it means for you

For most light users this was a clear win: 100GB covers far more travel days than 50GB did.

The loss is flexibility. Before, running a few GB over cost a few dollars. Now, once you pass 100GB, you’re on slow data until the next cycle unless you change plans. Low speed handles email, messages and calls, per Starlink, but not video streaming or video calls.

What to do now:

  1. Know what happens at the cap. Our data cap page explains low-speed mode and how to upgrade mid-month. Starlink says a mid-cycle upgrade gives you the new plan’s full allowance.
  2. Check how many days your data lasts. Our 100GB vs 300GB guide uses real per-hour figures from our data use guide.
  3. Ignore old “50GB” advice. Forum posts and older guides still talk about Roam 50GB and $1 top-ups. For US accounts, they’re out of date.

What changed since

  • May 14, 2026: a Roam 300GB plan was added, giving heavy users a middle step.
  • May 16, 2026: Roam 100GB rose from $50 to $55 for new customers (June 18 for existing customers), per press reports.
  • July 14, 2026: Roam 100GB lost international use for new customers (August 17 for existing). It now works only in the US, Canada and US territories.

What stays the same

  • Roam 100GB still supports in-motion use and inland waterways.
  • You can still pause with Standby Mode between trips, at a monthly fee.

How we handled this report

The data change and the end of top-ups come from a dated press report, labeled reported. Today’s allowance and the low-speed behavior are confirmed on Starlink’s Roam plans page.

Today’s values (from our checked data, not from the date above): $55/mo (checked Oct 5, 2026) · 100GB (checked Oct 5, 2026) · after the 100GB or 300GB runs out, service drops to unlimited low-speed data that handles email, calls and texts; streaming, big downloads and video calls are limited (checked Oct 5, 2026).
