Can you use Starlink Roam at home?

Quick answer

Yes. Roam works anywhere in the US, and your house is somewhere in the US. The catches: 100GB and 300GB run out fast at home, Unlimited ($175/mo) costs more than Residential, and Roam has no busy-hour priority.

The short version

Roam is built to work countrywide: anywhere in your home country, including inland waterways, marinas and coastal waters. Nothing in Starlink’s rules stops you from using it at your own address. Residential is the opposite: it works only at its registered address.

Who it suits

  • Full-timers with no fixed home. Roam is the only consumer option; Residential needs one address.
  • Light users who travel a lot. If your home use is mostly email and news, one Roam plan for home and road can be cheaper than two plans.
  • Not for busy households. If home is where you stream and work most of the year, keep a home plan and add Roam for trips. Roam vs Residential works through it.

Questions people ask

What is Starlink Roam?

Roam is Starlink’s travel plan family. It works anywhere in your home country (for US accounts, the US and Canada), including while moving and on inland and coastal water, and it can be paused. It comes in 100GB, 300GB and Unlimited versions.

Is Roam slower than Residential at home?

Starlink gives Roam a typical range of 65–260 Mbps down. It describes Residential Max as up to 400+ Mbps and its highest-priority home plan. Roam doesn’t get a “priority” promise for busy evenings.

Can I switch from Roam to Residential later?

Only if Residential has room at your address at that time. Starlink says areas can be at capacity, and pausing doesn’t reserve a Residential spot.
